The Development Bureau of the HKSAR Government has established the Geospatial Lab (GeoLab) for encouraging the public to make use of spatial data in developing smart applications, dovetailing the Common Spatial Data Infrastructure (CSDI) initiative in support of smart city development. Various services will roll out in phases starting from 10 May 2021.
The first activity, the “Establishment of Geospatial Lab-cum-Webinar”, has taken place online on 10 May 2021 at 3:00 - 4:15 p.m. Government Officials from the Development Bureau, and notable experts in CSDI, introduce the services to-be-launched at the GeoLab and share the latest development of geospatial data.
The Permanent Secretary for Development (Planning and Lands), Ms Bernadette Linn, noted that with the experience and community network of a non-governmental organisation, the GeoLab will nurture a geospatial community so as to encourage the younger generation, start-ups and creative talents to harness the use of spatial data to improve daily convenience and promote business opportunities.
Sr Winnie Shiu, Head of the Spatial Data Office of the Development Bureau shares how the GeoLab help raise public interest and explore together with the wider community the value and application of spatial data.
Mr Albert Su - Chief Executive of TWGHs and Project Director of GeoLab shares how the Geospatial lab can benefit the youth and start-ups.
Professor Anthony Yeh - Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Hong Kong Academy of Sciences, and Chair Professor of Urban Planning and Geo graphic Information Systems, the University of HK talks about the application of geospatial data in future cities.
Dr Winnie Tang – Founder and Honorary President of Smart City Consortium talks about the importance of spatial data on smart city development.
